Happy New Year—and perhaps more importantly, happy awards season! The 2025 awards season began with the 82nd annual Golden Globes earlier this month. Hollywood's brightest stars gathered to ring in the new year with stylish red carpet looks, and they certainly delivered. Red carpets consistently set the stage for bold statements and fresh fashion ideas, and many of the standout looks at the Globes are already shaping the style conversations of 2025. In this post, I’ll highlight three key trends I spotted on the carpet and explore how they’re poised to influence everyday styles this year.
that me espresso

Everyone has their go-to morning coffee (or tea) order, and some celebrities are taking it to the red carpet. Zendaya, Quinta Brunson, and Zoe Saldana were among the many stars draped in rich brown shades on the carpet last week. These earthy tones complement each actress' individual complexions, giving them a radiant, glowy look. I love how each actress made brown "their own" by incorporating unique textures, silhouettes, and accessories that showcased their styles - all while embracing the warm, coffee-inspired palette.
Brown proved to be a key color trend throughout 2024, and its popularity shows no signs of slowing down as we head into the new year. 2024 was truly the year of espresso, after all! Like the celebrities on the carpet, everyone can incorporate brown into their wardrobe as an elevated basic. Brown can elevate a look in countless ways: expect to see winter furs, brown ballet flats, tortoiseshell glasses, and trench coats making stylish appearances on streets everywhere. Brown is here to stay—classic, versatile, and undeniably chic.

Blacklights and a mirrored disco ball

Angelina Jolie, Mindy Kaling, and Nicole Kidman shined brightly on the carpet in stunning metallic gowns, each bringing their unique elegance to the spotlight. I love the way silver and gold shades enhance the natural sparkle each actress projects; the contrast between metallic tones and their respective features creates an impactful image on the red carpet. Deeper gold tones splendidly complemented darker hair, emphasizing warmth and richness, while silver tones flattered the blondes, adding an icy brilliance. Coordinating accessories in similar metallic shades further elevated each look.
As someone who religiously wore silver Sperry boat shoes throughout my childhood, I am thrilled metallics are back in style! (Though, do they ever really go out of style?!) Metallic pieces are the perfect way to elevate everyday looks. Whether it’s through coordinating jewelry, shoes, or hair accessories, adding a pop of silver or gold instantly makes an outfit feel more intentional. Beyond accessories, metallics are making waves in clothing too, from maxi silk gold skirts to shimmering silver crochet tops. These reflective tones not only enhance an outfit but also communicate confidence and playfulness, allowing you to shine—literally and figuratively—no matter the occasion.

noun: peplum; plural noun: peplums
Peplum tops originated from the ancient Greek peplos and evolved into a defining feature of women’s fashion. Popularized in Dior’s 1947 “New Look" and revived in the 1980s and 2010s, this style brings emphasis to the waist with a flared silhouette. Dior made peplum waves on this year's Golden Globes red carpet, as did other designer brands, including Luis Vuitton and Ashi Studio. Kristen Bell, Ana Sawai, and Cynthia Erivo all showcased stunning peplum gowns with cinched waists and accentuated hips, paired with sleek hairstyles—or, in Erivo’s case, her iconic bald look—that highlighted the gowns' bold silhouettes and flattering designs. I love how each outfit reflects a unique interpretation of the peplum style while staying true to its essence. These looks beautifully demonstrate the versatility of peplum, suiting a variety of body types and personal styles.
I predict peplum tops will continue to dominate in 2025. Brands may lean into the "Euro Summer" aesthetic, incorporating lightweight fabrics like linen, vibrant Mediterranean-inspired prints, and breezy peplum tops or dresses perfect for warm-weather styling. This resurgence could also blend with "cottagecore" influences, with clothing lines showcasing delicate details like ruffles, embroidery, and smocking for a romantic yet modern feel. Peplum’s flattering silhouette and versatility will ensure its enduring appeal, making it a key player in casual and elevated fashion next year.

Shades of brown, mixed metallic accessories, and peplum flares were just a few of the bold styles showcased on the Golden Globes red carpet. I'm excited to see how these complementary combinations influence everyday wear this year, and I'm already adding these looks to my closet. For example, I frequently sport silver loafers in the office and I received an espresso Rhode lip balm for Christmas! How are you incorporating these trends into your wardrobe?
As suggested in each heading of this post, the Grammys are up next! (ICYMI: Headings are lyrics from "Espresso" by Sabrina Carpenter, "Good Luck Babe" by Chappell Roan, and "Fortnight" by Taylor Swift ft. Post Malone.) Will performers like Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Taylor Swift incorporate these striking trends into their Grammy outfits? Given their fashion-forward reputations, imagining how they might interpret and elevate these bold looks on one of music's biggest nights is exciting. Leave me a comment about who you're excited to see on the Grammys red carpet!
